To accept your role(s), please email us at newwestballet@gmail.com by September 18th, 2017.  If we do not hear from you, we will assume you do not wish to perform in the 2017 Nutcracker Season and your role will be reassigned to another dancer.  We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Rehearsal Policy

Our rehearsal policy is rigorous.  We expect all dancers to be enrolled and attending ballet classes at NWB or their current studio.  Dancers must be at ALL rehearsals for which you are scheduled.  Dancers must attend all rehearsals in their entirety.  Any conflicts must be approved by the Artistic Directors prior to the first rehearsal.  Any cast member missing from rehearsals may be dismissed from the show.  Conflicts (other than illness) after casting are not allowed.  Remember to arrive on time and be prepared to stay the duration of the rehearsal.  Soloists, Corps de Ballet, and Variation dancers must attend ballet class prior to rehearsal.    Many parts are double cast.  Blue cast dancers perform in the Friday 7pm and Saturday 2pm performances.  Green cast dancers perform in the Saturday 7pm and Sunday 2pm performances.  Dancers must attend all performances for which they are cast.  Finally, dancers must attend Super Saturday rehearsals (Saturday, November 18th 1:00-5:00p) and all dress/tech rehearsals (Monday ­ Wednesday November 20th-22nd 4:00-9:00p).

Production Dates

October 1st Cast Apparel Order Due.
October 8th Costume Fitting Day.  For costume fitting day, please have dancers come dressed in class leotard, pink tights, and shoes (with the exception of male dancers) with their hair in a bun.  Male dancers, please wear ballet class uniform.  Please note: Soloists, Waltz Corps & Variations will be fit during their normal rehearsal schedule.

Tickets

We have a total of 3,200 tickets to sell for our performance of the Nutcracker.  If every performer sold 10 tickets, we would still need to sell approximately 2600 tickets to fill our audience.  As part of your performance obligation, all performer families are expected to purchase a minimum of six tickets for the show.  Performers who do not fulfill their ticket obligation will be billed for each ticket not sold on December 1st at $35 per ticket.  Tickets will be available for purchase at the studio starting November 1st.  A discount code will be available for Friends and Family (Coupon code is NUT2017) and expires on Super Saturday November 18th.  Discount information TBA.  No discounts will be available past November 18th, so please purchase your tickets in advanced.  Please do not use any coupons found on Living Social, Groupon, Etc.  These discount tickets are meant to draw in members of the community who are not New West Ballet patrons and do not count toward your ticket purchase obligation.

Costuming

New West Ballet owns all the costumes for ³The Nutcracker². Dancers will be assigned a costume during the costume fitting day, Sunday, Oct. 8th. Ladies, please wear you tights and leotard to the fitting with your hair in a bun. Men, please wear your tights and dance t-shirt to your fitting. All dancers must be present at this fitting. Costumes are fit as a group and we are unable to fit the group with a dancer missing. All dancers are required to clean/mend or make minor adjustments to their costume. Dancers are held responsible for their costumes and are liable for cost of replacing lost or damaged pieces.

Costume Requirements

Although the main costume will be provided by New West Ballet, there are still some costume requirements that will be provided by the dancer.  All female dancers are required to wear the following:
  • Tights - Body Wrappers Mesh Back Seam Convertible Tights in Ballet Pink
  • €Ballet Slippers - Child Bloch ³Prolite II Hybrid² Split Sole Ballet Slippers - Style No: S0203G or Adult Bloch "Prolite II Hybrid" Leather Split-Sole Ballet Slippers - Style No: S0203L
 
Males, please check with rehearsal director for specific costume requirements.

Marketing and Fundraising

Discount Dance Fundraiser
This year, NWB is offering a fundraiser with Discount Dance.  On October 21st, 2017, you will be able to shop the entire day at their Oceanside location and will receive a 15% discount on your entire purchase when you mention our studio.  In addition, 10% of your sale will be given to the studio. 
 
Opportunity Drawing
Each year the dancers are requested to bring items for Themed Baskets for an Opportunity Drawing that occurs during intermission of each show. A list of themes for each role will be available at the end of October and items will be collected starting in November.  Businesses who donate in excess of $50 to the drawing will receive a free 1Ž4 page ad in our program.

Program Advertisements
Program Advertisement forms will be available for dancers and their families to contact local business and ask for advertisements for the program that is distributed to each audience member that attends the Nutcracker.  These ads are for businesses only.  We are asking each family to solicit five (5) businesses, asking for program advertisements, with the intention of selling at least one business ad.  There will be a form sent in a separate email and available at the studio, please return to studio by October 15th, 2017. 

Cast Apparel
Your dancer will have the opportunity to purchase additional cast apparel. There will be a form sent in a separate email and available at the studio.  Forms need to be returned to the studio by October 1st, 2017.

Dancer Grams
Dancer Grams are an opportunity to send a note of congratulations to your dancer during the show. They will be available to pre-purchase starting on Nov. 11th and continue through Tech Week.  Dancer Grams will also be available for purchase in the lobby during the shows.

Flowers
 Flowers are a great gift to give your dancer for a job well done. They will be available for pre-purchase at the studio starting on Nov. 11th and will be delivered to your dancer during the performance of your choice.

DVD¹s
There will be a professional video crew at each performance capturing our wonderful production. They will be available for purchase after the production has ended.  An email will be sent with information regarding purchasing information.
