Absence Policy

As classical ballet dancer, it is important that class attendance is regular and maintained. Muscle structure from class consistency allow pre-professional students to properly execute advanced ballet movement. Dancers are expected to attend class on time and remain throughout the duration of the class. Students, in third position or higher, that miss more than two (2) classes in a month or consistently leave early or arrive late to class are required to schedule a 30 minute private at a separate charge [regardless of if absence is approved by NWB director(s)], see private class pricing at the end of the handbook. Number of privates required will differ based on number of absences incurred and information missed during absences. NWB will automatically charge your account for the required private lessons at the beginning of the month (1st or 10th depending on your tuition payment plan) following the missed classes. It is up to the parent/student to schedule these privates with an approved instructor through the front office (email or in person). Students who incur too many absences may be asked to repeat their training level, may be removed from performance, and/or may be asked to refrain from pointe work during class. Please note, to avoid absences, students are encouraged to participate in the class as a note taker in the event of injury or minor illness. Notes will be collected by the teacher at the end of the class. Note taking is considered being present in the class and your dancer will be counted as present in the class.

Pointe Based Classes

Pre-Pointe and Beginning Pointe classes are designed to prepare students to dance en pointe. As the student advances, Pointe becomes part of the daily class routine. Beyond pointe work, classes in classical variations and pas de duex technique are a unique opportunity for the student to practice classical ballet movement en pointe. Pointe classes are on an individual level, as part of their technique class, and available by placement only for Fourth and Fifth Position dancers.
